Lusine loses his famous beats and delivers a gorgeous ambient collection for the Hymen label. Colliding guitar sounds with a ton of ambient synth work and field recordings, Lusine’s approach here is the direct opposite of minimal (a style too many ambient artists have grown all too comfortable with), and has a vibrance not normally heard in ambient releases. After the disappointing remix album Podgelism (released earlier this year on Ghostly), this record feels like a worthy follow-up to the classic Serial Hodgepodge without attempting to sound anything like it. A must listen for ambient and electronic fans alike.

Style: Ambient

RIYL: Miwon, Tim Hecker

After years of following Jeff McIlwain's work under other aliases (L'usine / Lusine), I am completely swept off my feet with this melancholy serenade. Lo-fi passes of ambient minor chord sweeps, and a perfect thump of a beat-less bass in just the right places. This album reminds me a lot of Arovane's Lilies, whose sound I've been craving for a couple of years now. I am looking forward to chilling out to this album even during the most coldest days. Instant gem!
