Community Library head and acclaimed DJ/artist Paul Dickow follows up last year's excellent Future Rock with this brilliant 12" of futuristic, downtempo ambient funk again under the Strategy moniker. What amazed me about Future Rock was how nothing else out there sounded remotely like it, even though it borrowed from so many sources. Dickow continues that sound here with three excellently developed (and long) tracks that spread their seed over a large array of textures and effects. "Unconventional Wisdom" layers effects over repeating synths for absolutely gorgeous effect. "Wurlitzer Laptop" is a mix of Plaid-like melodies repeating over a constantly evolving ambience. A mix of Boards of Canada style synths comes in eventually, taking the song to its denouement. "Primordial Soup" takes cues from early 90s ambient techno to create an excellent groove with a heavy dub influence, which Dickow describes as "Krautrock meets the Orb". An tremendous group of tracks, this 12" solidifies Dickow as one of the more interesting electronic musicians around.
