Hot Chip's albums have gotten progressively "louder," if that makes any sense. “Coming on Strong” was clearly recorded by two guys in their basement; “The Warning” was more propulsive and felt like the product of a full band; and “Made in the Dark” finds the band working in a full-fledged studio, pushing their production to some sort of bombastic outer limit. This is a massive album, brimming with ideas, veering from new wave to disco-funk to classic rock to love ballads, with occasional missteps but then also with some of the catchiest singles of their career ('One Pure Thought' may be the best track released so far this year); highly recommended!
