At a Squarepusher show in 2004, I heard someone describe the music as "electronic free jazz", a term I didn't find very accurate for Tom's music, or anyone else's really. Until hearing Brian Ellis, that is. Expecting something similar to his lovely work with Milieu as Free Festival, I was treated to something on an entirely different wavelength. The Silver Creature blends dozens of instruments with electronic manipulations, seemingly on an improvisational basis. The finished product is a unique blend of jazz, post rock, and experimentalism that makes Tortoise look formulaic. Not everyone will love this, but they should at least respect the scope and ambition of this young, but talented artist.

Style: Experimental, Post Rock

RIYL: Tortoise, Squarepusher
