Russian Alexey Deyvanin delivers his astonishing Kasha Iz Topora from Miasmah; an album that's great because it really shouldn't be great at all. Kasha Iz Topora is made of all sorts of noises Deyvanin has been able to record, from what sound like creaking doors to turning bicycle wheels, including very little instrumentation. The overall result is a somewhat chaotic sinister folk affair that surprises the listener because the arrangement of these noises feels more like "music" than an academic experiment. Drawing inspiration from Russian fairytales about evil monsters and strange creatures, this album is the dark subconscious and disturbing nightmare of other folktronica albums.

Style: Experimental

RIYL: Svarte Greiner, Machinefabriek

Kasha Iz Topora

Some useless side info: Alexey Deyvanin derives the title for his album from a Russian folklore tale, Kasha Iz Topora (???? ?? ??????), later made into a famous Soviet cartoon, in which a soldier attempts to make Kasha (porridge) out of an ax - literally because there's nothing else in the house to eat!
