Red Snapper reunite after six years with this nice little mini-album on Lo. Gone is the rapping or the ominous atmosphere of late 90s trip-hop present in their last couple albums. This is some Ninja Tune-esque downtempo/future jazz, and, hey, that's not a bad thing. Thankfully, those hard basslines are still there which retain some of the Red Snapper demeanor and tracks like "Wanga Doll" definitely have a hard edge to them, but there also a library music feel here at times, which is nice as well. Many of these tracks play out like soundtracks to movie scenes. I really like how Red Snapper's taking themselves back to their roots here, almost as if this release is a rebirth for them with much more interesting stuff to follow. And at only six new tracks and two (very good) remixes, this definitely feels like a taster for an album in '09. Hopefully that's the case, as this is the most refreshing Red Snapper's been since "Suckerpunch". Definitely worth a listen if Red Snapper means anything at all to you.

Style: Future Jazz, Downtempo

RIYL: Jaga Jazzist, Skalpel
