A new entrant into the stable of hip-hop producers still coming up with fresh sounds, the first track off of Arts the Beatdoctor's debut draws those immediate comparisons to Flying Lotus, Jneiro Jarel, and the like, and deservedly so. But Netherlander Jodri Huisman channels as much downtempo and jazz as he does hip-hop, having you thinking Bonobo on one track and J Dilla the next. At times Arts is definitely spreading himself thin here, and I'd like to see him focus on the experimental hip-hop sounds more, but to cover so many styles so convincingly in a debut like this is certainly an achievement. Style: Hip-Hop, Future Jazz RIYL: Jneiro Jarel, Bonobo Download: The Anthem
