Seeing Apparat live as well as following his releases since the 2002 classic Duplex, it's remarkable how comfortable he can switch gears from the warping experimentalism of IDM to the crowd-pleasing sound of Techno and to the emotive rhythm of his electronic pop tracks (put more in focus on last year's brilliant album Walls). But it's even more impressive when he's able to cram these sounds together, as on 2006's collaboration with Ellen Allien and on various 12"'s and remixes. So, even with Appparat's successful and genre-defining and defying albums, with that preface, a collection of tracks better displays the scope of his talent. And that's exactly what we have on the first disc of this compilation, a collection of various remixes Ring has executed over the course of his career. Apparat seems to be bring not only new life to every track he remixes, but to fully paint his signature on them, as if he's claiming the track as his own. That's not only the sign a of a great remixer, but a great artist in general, and it's about time Apparat got his due. The second disc is a collection of remixes of Apparat tracks by other artists, and why it's fine, in most cases the originals still outshine the reworks. It's the first disc here that's the real winner, and another shining example of the true genius of Apparat at work.
