The Cardigans singer Nina Persson returns with her second album as A Camp with her husband, film composer Nathan Larson and Niclas Frisk. A Camp's debut was a fantastic altcountry album with really memorable songs that guided the later discography of The Cardigans. The new sound was captured the sadness of Gran Turismo (one of my favoirte albums) while turning the sonic realm of it upside down. Going from a electronics-heavy trip-hop sound to an organic altcountry tone, A Camp's debut revealed just how diverse Nina's musical interests were, and how how her voice could resonate on not only pop and trip-hop, but on folk and country as well. Colonia is natural second step in the sound of A Camp, where Nina's vocals and songwriting are allowed tons of room to breathe, and the pop, folk, and altcountry elements of the instruments are arranged in a delicate harmony. Overall, this album has the feel of an old pop record. The rhythms are less country and more like 60s rock rhythms. It's hard to explain, but very tangible when you hear the record. I'm really impressed with this album just as I was with the debut.
