Absolutely flawless dub techno EP out of the exclusive Meanwhile label. This 12" is only Bovill's fifth EP on the label since 2004, but what he lacks in quantity he makes up for in quality with these four tracks. "Transfesa" is Deepchord-esque dub techno with that perfect mix of 90s throwback charm. "QSG2" goes in more of a tech-house direction with a 4/4 beat and some subtle bass until the real dub creeps in. This starts a musical game of cat and mouse with the bass and the synths that's surprisingly engaging. "Trescore" pulls things further back into Black Dog and early Autechre IDMish territory and sounds like a forgotten classic in that respect. Closer "Slinky" might actually be the best of the bunch though, with its bouncy club opening giving way to shimmering synth work around groovy dub bass. This EP is entirely a throwback to 90s techno and IDM with a dub slant, which I think gives a wide array of appeal to fans of early IDM, Detroit Techno, and Dub Techno revivalists.
