Perhaps it's the fact that the label involved is Sub Pop, but I couldn't help thinking of Nirvana while listening to this album; if No Age's first record (the Fat Cat compilation "Weirdo Rippers") was "punk ambient," their second is somewhere between punk and pop, though in the best possible sense. It's a good thing, I think, to be unafraid of making music that might seem too "accessible" or "popular." I'm sure No Age will take a lot of crap for this album, but the fact remains that "Nouns" is astonishingly good; even better than I expected, and I was expecting something awfully good. There are great hooks and melodies everywhere, with just enough dirty lo-fi texturing to keep things interesting.

Style: Indie Rock
