It was quite a pleasant surprise to see my current candidate for "best electronic producer ever" (Rod Modell, a.k.a. Deepchord) remixing one of my favorite indie acts of the last couple years (Nick Harte, a.k.a. Shocking Pinks). I should emphasize that this was a surprise; DFA has a history of inviting first-rate electronic producers to remix their stable of artists, but it’s hard to think of a more incongruous match than this one; yet it somehow works. The two remixes (by Modell as Deepchord, and Modell/Hitchell as Echospace) are among the best work that either have ever done, and the rest of the EP is filled out by (generally good) B-sides and remixes.
