Indielectronic pioneer Kristian Craig Robinson returns with his fifth album and third for his own label. Kristian was one of the first artists to collide the indie rock sound with experimental electronic music, and to this day no one's been able to copy his formula for success. He's most noted for his hit "Pillow" off of his classic second album Island Row, but Kristian's been doing this for years, and besides his misstep of a third album Happy Happy, where he tried to go almost entirely indie pop, he's been successful with it. Given that, fans should know what to expect from his latest record, and will be relieved to hear that the quality is still there after ten years of work. Kristian's music is erratic and playful, sometimes harsh and sometimes very accessible. I'd venture to say Notes From... is his best since Island Row, and still a totally unique collision of indie and electronic music. Kristian's vocals are as out there as ever, but even on the instrumental tracks, the music is always compelling and active. A worthy record from one of the unsung heroes of indielectronic music.
