Nobody follows up the debut album of his new project with Niki Rhanda Blank Blue with this fantastic EP featuring a new song, alternate takes, and a Flying Lotus remix. The acoustic takes of the album tracks arguably outdo the originals, where Niki voice is given more room to breathe. The cymbals increase with an intensity that is palpable on the rework of "Sonic What?!" as Niki sings "Here it comes now...like a wave" in impressive fashion. The new version of "Up" is as etheral as it gets, with some very nice uplifting folktronic melody work (especially at the end) and of course again Niki's gorgeous voice. "Finer Grains" is the new song, a mostly instrumental track with the same type of acoustic/electronic mix that made up the album, with Niki humming over the beat. Nobody's instrumental genius is really at work in this EP, even in this stripped down version, as he continues to redefine what it means to be a hip-hop producer. The FlyLo remix is one of his best, where he chops up Nobody's beats for his interpretation of waves, with bass and 8 bit sounds behind Niki's voice before it transforms into a psychedelic hip-hop bruiser on the second half. And there's an instrumental version if you're not into the vocals. This is an excellent EP that makes me appreciate the album even more.
