Dam-Funk is too damn good. Like Dorian Concept, the dude knows how to work a keyboard and seems to know every in and out of an analog sound producing synth. Gaining popularity for his famous boogie-funk Funkmosphere nights in L.A., Dam-Funk's made a name for himself through his "Burn Rubber" remix for the Baron Zen remix project to the "Burgundy City" 12" he first released on Stones Throw. The Rhythm Trax series is put out by Stones Throw and the idea is for a specific producer to create a DJ friendly record of beats. In the past James Pants, DJ Romes, and Baron Zen have released Rhythm Trax 12"s that show off their own unique production style. Dam-Funk's is the latest installment and is done quite well. Each track is named after a color. For those unfamiliar with Dam-Funk's style, his major influences come from the late 70s/early 80s boogie-funk/disco genre, 80s electro rap, and early 90s West Coast G-Funk. Expect to hear warm 70s and 80s synthesized keys over hand claps and drum machine boom-baps. I can say I've never heard anyone make noise the way D-F does. He knows his records and the sound he loves and he's created an unmatched sound.

Style: Instrumental Hip-Hop

RIYL: Zapp & Roger, James Pants
