Erik Skodvin (aka Svarte Greiner)'s label Miasmah raises the bar once again in dark contemporary classical music, with Polish Michal Jacaszek's 55 minutes of achingly beautiful melodies. Words fail to describe how accomplished an album this is, how it brings about a subtle novelty. Jacaszek rules out the sampling common to most ambient artists and everything on this album is live instrumentation. Treny treads on the boundaries between ambient, classical and post rock; presenting a hybrid that feels like it could only be achieved in 2008. Massive recommendation.

Style: Modern Classical

RIYL: Svarte Greiner, Murcof
