This debut release out of Manchester throws out the post-rock playbook, and delivers one of the most charming debut mini-albums since 2006's Panda & Angel. Blending post rock sounds with occasional vocals, there's an emotional punch as with a lot of post rock, but there's also subtlety here that post rock usually lacks. That's why it may be easier to compare this band to the likes of The Arcade Fire than Godspeed, though there are certainly elements of both. The genius here is really the synthesis of all the disparate sounds into a flowing, meaningful journey. With this record, Spokes have delivered an incredibly charming and auspicious debut that is a must listen for fans of the indie and post rock landscapes alike. Style: Post Rock, Indie Rock RIYL: Panda & Angel, The Arcade Fire Download: Young People! All Together
