Haven't found your whacked-out, experimental rock record for this year? Thank You's debut album Terrible Two has arrived just in time then. A trio from Baltimore, Thank You are equal parts Tortoise, Battles, Lightning Bolt, and Animal Collective. No idea is too crazy to fit into their framework of experimental post/math/noise/psych-rock, and the more sounds the better it seems. The terms cacophony and din come to mind when attempting to describe this sound, but in no way are they meant to be insulting. That's Thank You's genius; to throw thousands of sounds at you at once, developing some and discarding others, and having the listener accept them all gladly. This album recalls the best parts of Battles's Mirrored or Lightning Bolt's Wonderful Rainbow, but its sounds are somehow larger in scope than both of them. That's hard to accomplish, especially while retaining something for the listener to hold onto the the entire time, but Thank You pull it off with style. A must listen for the open-minded.

Style: Post Rock, Experimental

RIYL: Battles, Lightning Bolt
