Werk Discs founder Darren Cunningham quietly released his debut album in the last half of '08 before the monster Lukid and Zomby albums, but we're not going to let him get away with it. Supposedly a collection of tracks from 2002 to 2008, Hazyville certainly sounds a bit all over the place. The album is quite a unique listen though, as Off-kilter techno mixes in with ambient and hip-hop beats. Diverse, but never derivative, Actress has a way of blending his obviously disparate influences into a new type of sound altogether. Disorienting techno perhaps is an appropriate description. Because of the disjointedness of the record, some parts are certainly better than others, but I really like what Darren's stumbling into with his "will it blend?" approach to techno. It's hard to give a lot of pointers as to what to expect as all 11 tracks take completely different genres through sound. It's as if Actress wanted to display all of the different ideas he's tampered with in the last decade, and we can decide what we like and don't like. I'll pick the "all of the above" option.

Style: Techno, Instrumental Hip-Hop

RIYL: Newworldaquarium, Lukid
