This is an album that I’ve been anxiously awaiting since 2004; Mark Stewart has released some great material in the intervening years – two flawless EPs and a series of four dance-oriented 12” releases – but nothing with the flow and depth of a proper album. “Metanarrative” is tantalizingly short (only eight tracks, spanning less than forty minutes), though meticulously arranged, and doesn’t quite meet all of the frenzied expectations (well, my frenzied expectations), but it’s still a very strong album. There are no dancefloor tracks to be found, for better or worse; the overall sound is melancholic yet warm, recalling tracks like "Post" and "Patience," or the quieter parts of “Neurofibro.” Another fantastic release from this underrated British producer!

Style: Techno, Electro

RIYL: Andy Stott, Convextion
