Fenin returns with his second album of dub-infused techno, and it's quite an improvement over his debut Grounded. Fenin's sound has always had a more literal Jamaican influence than a lot of other dub techno acts, with Jamaican vocals frequently appearing over the mechanical beats and and dubby bass. The result is more Boy Robot than Rod Modell. It's a style I thought was gimmicky at first, but which reveals its charm upon repeat listens. He really opens himself up with Been Through with beats all over the electronic music spectrum, and he's better off for it. I get a sense listening to Been Through that Fenin's really been absorbing what's around him, and adding it to his sound with becoming a copycat. In addition to Boy Robot there are shades of its labelmate Miwon's Pale Glitter album here as well as a couple of queues taken from Shitkatapult label head Apparat. The only cheese element here is a questionable cover of "Red Wine". Otherwise, here's some more high-quality dub techno in what's suddenly an emerging market.

Style: Techno, Dub

RIYL: Boy Robot, Rhythm & Sound
