Modeselektor and Apparat finally team up for a full-length after some previous collaborations. This collab plays not unlike Apparat's earlier collab with Ellen Allien. First, it's very good. Second, it perfectly gels together the sounds of the collaborators, vocal infused IDM in the case of Apparat, and poppy techno in the case of Modeselektor. I've always had a problem with Modeselektor going too far into the pop realm, and Apparat gladly reels them in on this record, creating a perfect mix of accesibility and experimentalism. The result is just damn good techno. Well, it wouldn't be Modeselektor without some surprises. Confounding Jamaican vocals appear on "Slow Match", but somehow over the five minute track they reveal a charm that works with the cold beat behind them. That tune immediately transitions into sun-peering-through-ice ambience that evolved into Autechre-on-the-dancefloor beat that stretches over the next track. It's beautiful transition work. There's more adventurousness, such as some more vocals and even a Burialesque tune to close out the album. Overall this is another great collaboration for Apparat, rivaling Orchestra of Bubbles.

Style: Techno, IDM
