So Pendle Coven finally release their debut album after a slew of EP's on Modern Love (some of you might have checked out Iamnoman recently), plus that nice split with The Boats. This one's a dubby affair, so it fits right in with the Echospace stuff we've been keeping you up-to-date on, though I'd say it carries a bit more thump than those records, which would be more in line with what Modern Love usually does. So if you were wondering what a blend of Rod Modell and Claro Intelecto would sound like, you've got your record now. The answer of course is pretty damn cool, and this is one of the more interesting things Modern Love has released in a while. Chord Calculus" actually reminds me of early Ian Pooley, and maybe it's just that it has the word chord in it, but it has this shimmering techno quality to it that The Times and Meridian had. "Uncivil Engineering" is another highlight of throwback ambient techno. Overall, this is the best techno release I've heard so far this year. If you've dug previous recommendations for Rod Modell, Newworldaquarium, Intrusion, Convextion, Actress et al, definitely have a listen.

Style: Techno, Dub

RIYL: Claro Intelecto, Newworldaquarium
